I just saw this being done today and it was the first time. A guy who was playing me brought a laser pointer to the store and used it for LOS. I found that very clever especially since he got that from one of his students who was fooling around with it in his class. I hope this helped some people and I will be doing that too.

The US site ran a tutorial on how to build periscopes for table top use, another legit use of determining LOS, though a laser pointed is also a nice thing.

We used to use laser pointers, until someone discovered that anykind of airborne vapour shows up the laser in what looks like a very cool, hollywood style effect. Within an hour of this revelation the room had been turned into a Lynx sponsored gas-chamber. The game had to be abandoned. That and no-one could resist shining them on the foreheads of everyone and his miniatures and saying things like "I have him in my sights, taking the shot..." and "Oooh that's a nasty spot, have you got a VD?" Etc.
